The Turkey Club Sandwich is a Restaurant Classic that You Can Easily Make at Home

The traditional club sandwich is a timeless deli favorite, known for its triple-decker stack of toasted bread, savory meats, fresh lettuce and tomato, and that irresistible crunch of bacon. Often served with a pickle spear and a side of fries, it’s the kind of hearty, no-fuss meal that you can find on nearly every diner and American restaurant menu. With its satisfying layers and classic flavors, itโ€™s no wonder the turkey club sandwich has earned its place as a go-to favorite.

Here’s the good news, friends: you can easily make this club sandwich recipe at home! There’s no need to wait until your next restaurant visit. Instead, assemble the meal in the comfort of your own home whenever the craving strikes. We love these sandwiches for a hearty supper, especially during the warm weather months when we don’t want to turn on the oven!

Ingredient Notes and Tips for Success

  • A hallmark of the club sandwich is three slices of toasted bread. This obviously makes the sandwich nice and tall, which is why toothpicks are necessary to hold it together.
  • I use a classic hearty white sandwich bread made by Pepperidge Farm, but really any similar variety will work. Try whole wheat, multigrain, or sourdough bread, too.
  • A classic club sandwich typically features thinly sliced deli turkey; however, you can sub with chicken breast, ham, roast beef, or a combination.
  • You’ll need three cooked, crispy pieces of bacon for this sandwich. You can take a shortcut and purchase fully-cooked bacon at the grocery store. Alternatively, here’s my favorite way to cook a lot of bacon at once: line an extra-large rimmed sheet pan with aluminum foil (for easy clean-up). Arrange bacon slices in a single layer on the foil. Bake in a 400ยฐF oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired level of crispiness. Thick-cut bacon will take a little bit longer.

Club Sandwich Recipe Variations

  • Swap out the deli turkey and instead use leftover turkey from a holiday meal (like this maple-glazed whole turkey breast), roasted chicken or a store-bought rotisserie chicken, deli ham, or leftover ham (like this bourbon glazed ham).
  • Add a slice of cheese to the sandwich, such as Swiss cheese or sharp cheddar cheese.
  • For extra flavor, mix a little Dijon mustard into the mayo before spreading on the toast.
