Can you just put raw chicken in a slow cooker?
Yes! There’s no need to pre-cook or brown chicken before adding it straight to the Crock Pot. That’s one reason this appliance is so convenient!
Can you use frozen chicken in a Crock Pot recipe?
No, food safety experts advise against putting frozen meat in a slow cooker, since it takes too long for the frozen meat to come to a safe temperature (which may allow for the growth of harmful bacteria). If you choose to cook frozen chicken in a Crock Pot, do so at your own risk.
Do you need liquid in a Crock pot for chicken?
No, you do not need to add extra liquid to a Crock Pot when cooking chicken. The meat releases juices and condensation develops in the pot, which will add moisture to the slow cooker as the meat cooks. Most recipes do include some type of sauce or liquid, but it’s not a requirement.
How long does raw chicken take in slow cooker?
The key to avoiding dry, tough chicken in a slow cooker is not over-cooking it. Every slow cooker runs at a slightly different temperature, which is why you’re giving cooking time ranges in most recipes. It’s important to get to know your Crock Pot. Most boneless, skinless chicken breast recipes or boneless, skinless chicken thigh recipes recommend 6-8 hours on LOW or 3-4 hours on HIGH. Bone-in chicken parts or whole chickens may require a bit longer.
My slow cooker, for example, runs at a relatively hot temperature. I find that my chicken does best when cooked on LOW for about 4-5 hours or on HIGH for about 2-3 hours. Again, just get familiar with your particular appliance and adjust the cooking times accordingly.

I really appreciate the recipe collections you’ve put out recently, Blair. Now that’s it getting somewhat cooler, I look at your recipes and they All look delicious. The collections give me a guide to start choosing. The more collections the better, as you have time. Thank you! Take care and love to all!
I love chicken and homemade dumplings. I live alone and since this recipe I use is rather large I share with the nice young man that lives next to me and still works for a living. He is always so appreciative for whatever I cook and share. He is just like a part of my family as he is the same age as my oldest daughter. I love to cook and chicken is always thrown in the crock pot or casserole. Thank you for these wonderful recipes I have made most of them.
