Our local Madison County Volunteer Fire Company hosted an Open House last Sunday afternoon in order to kick off National Fire Safety Week. The boys were SO excited for this event!

Before we left home, we re-read one of the kids’ favorite books, Little Critter: Going to the Firehouse by Mercer Mayer. It seemed so appropriate!

Like just about every activity in our small little town, the people were incredibly friendly and the crowds were non-existent! The boys were able to wander through the fire station and check out the equipment,

One of Gibbs’s favorite parts of the afternoon was the barrel train ride around the fire station parking lot, which he enjoyed numerous times. Casey was less sure and opted to jump off right before it started moving!

We also watched a Christmas tree fire demonstration, which showed how the flames roll off of a ceiling and spread rapidly through a house.

All in all, a great outing. We are so thankful for the local volunteers who work so hard!
