Last Saturday my mom celebrated a big birthday, and we did it in style!

To start a weekend away in the mountains with her friends, the ladies came out to our house in the country for some food, wine, and fun. Unfortunately, I was too busy playing hostess and visiting with my guestsโฆI forgot to take pictures! I have a few here, but itโs killing me that I missed photographing about 75% of our guests! I know that there were plenty of other cameras floating around, though, so I hope that our friends were better able to capture the occasion!
A few of the lovely ladies:
In addition to the wine (of course!), I served water with lemons and iced tea in mason jars.
(Those are cheese straws in the foreground!)
For lunch, I put together a buffet that included two types of miniature sandwiches: chicken salad on croissants and pimento cheese. There were potato chips on the sideโฆit just wouldnโt be a party for my mom without potato chips!
Those are hydrangeas in glass jars down the center of the table. I wrapped the jars in burlap strips and tied them with ribbon. Easy and rustic!
I added color to the table with plenty of salads: a fruit salad, plus a crowd-favorite โ The Barefoot Contessaโs Cape Cod Chopped Salad.
I also set up a small dessert buffet on my sidebar.
We indulged in cupcakes,
as well as Lemon Coconut Bars (recipe to come soon!) and cookies.
Flowers like these decorated the rest of the house. The perfect spring touch!
And the grandsons even managed to make a brief appearance at the party. Just long enough to say, โHappy Birthday!โ and pose for a picture or twoโฆ
Clearly, three-year-old boys are not capable of taking a โnormalโ photograph!
And two-year-old boys are not capable of sitting still for even a single photo. I promise Casey was there too!
Happy Birthday, Mom! I canโt think of a better person, friend, or mother to celebrate. You are a true gift to everyone who knows you.

It was a perfect party hosted by the perfect daughter!
