Since we’re learning all about trees this week, I thought it would be fun to have a tree-themed story time followed up by an Arbor Day Tree Snack.
Today’s book pick was Johnny Appleseed: The Story of a Legend by Will Moses.
This book is definitely written for a higher reading level than age 3, but the story is great. I just paraphrased the folk tale while Gibbs followed along with the pictures.
And when we were done with our reading and discussion, it was snack time! You can probably tell from my photo, that this is a very easy little “project.” I used halved green grapes for the tree’s leaves, raspberries for my “fruit,” a big pretzel rod for the trunk, and some smaller pretzel sticks for the branches. Gibbs was amused by the fact that it looked like a tree, but he was more pleased that I was feeding him two of his favorite foods: grapes and pretzels! If your kids prefer cucumbers, kiwi fruit, green apple slices, or strawberries, by all means use them. I just grabbed what we had in our refrigerator!
