Hi, there! As you may recall from last week’s post about Magnetic Fishing, I’m spending the next couple of weeks on a series of indoor play activities for kids. It’s the heart of winter here in Virginia, and with a two-month-old baby it’s harder than ever for me to spend long periods of time outdoors with my older boys. That’s why I’m sharing some of our favorite ways to stay busy in the comfort of our own home — minimal supplies and minimal prep time required! These Stomp and Pop Balloons are a great way to get your kids up and moving, even when they can’t run around outside.
So, one of two-year-old Casey’s absolute favorite “toys” is a balloon. I buy them in bulk at Target because we go through them at a rapid pace. After all, it’s the most fun when they pop!
Since Casey loves to pop balloons, I figured we should make a game out of it. I used a string (about 18 inches in length) to tie a balloon to each boy’s ankle. I then told them that their goal was to try to stomp on the other boy’s balloon and pop it. At first they looked at me like I was crazy. “Are you really allowing us to try to pop each other’s balloon?!” After all, that’s usually what I scold them for doing!
Once they realized that I was serious, the boys started jumping up and down with excitement, and then quickly began stomping.
They jumped, laughed, fell, and did everything in their power to pop their balloons. They eventually gave up on popping each other’s balloon, and instead just focused on their own. However you play the game, it’s sure to entertain your energetic little ones! Just watching it entertained me…
