Looking for a fun, quiet indoor Party Activity for Kids on New Year’s Eve? These Snack Necklaces are the perfect way to entertain your little guests at any get-together, including a birthday party, playdate, or even family movie night!

Party Activity for Kids Snack NecklacesWhenever we host parties or social gatherings at our house and little kids are involved (which is about 99% of the time), I like to have a few ideas up my sleeve to keep the tykes busy and engaged so that they’re not roaming around the house bored and causing trouble. It’s especially hard when the weather is cold and we can’t just send them outside!

That’s where these Snack Necklaces come in. You can buy a few ingredients to set out in little bowls, put some long strings out on the table, and the children can help themselves. They can thread the goodies onto their necklace for as long as they like, and then wear their edible craft and snack as they go! Obviously, my boys loved this one. It involved food, after all!

Since I was going with a party theme, I opted for some special sweet treats that we don’t always keep on hand. The boys were particularly excited about this! If, however, you would prefer a healthier approach, there are plenty of other less sugar-laden options (such as Cheerios, pretzels, plain shortbread cookies, Oh’s cereal, etc.). But here’s what we used:

Snack Necklaces Ingredients

You will notice that I set out 5 different bowls of round treats with holes in the middle. We used mini Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies, Gummy Life Savers, Voortman sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, and Froot Loops cereal. The various colors allow the kids to make patterns, if they choose to do so. It’s also an excellent way to practice fine motor skills!

To make threading the food a little bit easier, I wrapped the end of the string with a small piece of tape. That way it didn’t bend or fray every time the boys tried to poke it through a hole.

They worked diligently…

and then enjoyed the fruits of their labor!

Then, while I was left to clean up the remaining goodies, they scurried off with their snacks to help their dad with various “jobs” around the property. This was the perfect way to burn off some of that sugar rush!
