Fortunately, this Dump-and-Bake Honey Mustard Chicken only requires 5 minutes of prep and 5 ingredients for a healthy dinner that the entire family can enjoy…making it the perfect example of less is more.

How To Make Honey Mustard Chicken

This is simple, one dish dinner and like I mentioned before it requires only 5 minutes of prep work.

The Marinade

  • Honey
  • Garlic
  • Curry Powder
  • Soy Sauce

Mix all the marinade ingredients together in the baking dish them add the chicken, coat to combine and leave to marinade in the fridge.

For best results, marinate the chicken for at least 2 hours to overnight. You can toss it together before you go to work or the night before and it’ll be ready to cook at dinner time. This will really help the flavors develop and become extra delicious!

Serving Suggestions

You can slice the meat and serve it on sandwiches; you can spoon the chicken and sauce over rice or pasta; or you can just plate the meat with a veggie and soak up the mustard sauce with a crusty hunk of bread. Here are some other side options you could try;

  • Mashed or Roast Potatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Carrots
  • Sauerkraut or Cabbage
  • Mashed or Baked Sweet Potato

In this season of excess and indulgence, I hope that you will consider the less-is-more approach to not only your cooking, but also to other aspects of your life.

Do what feels good to your body and your mind; choose soothing and calm over stressful and loud; and just be kind to yourself. A wholesome and delicious honey mustard chicken dinner, a warm fire with a mug of tea, and a cozy blanket are really all that we need, right?

Top Tip: If you’re using larger cuts of meat, you will want to sliced the breasts in half so that they cook in a short amount of time OR you can increase the baking time to at least 30-45 minutes.

  1. Your workout class sounds like a great way to start your mornings! I need to get back into my workout routine, and soon! This dump and bake chicken is just what I need for busy weeknights. I love the honey mustard flavor and the fact that this is so easy!

    1. Thanks, Gayle! I’m a big believer in listening to my body, and my body tells me that yoga is a VERY good thing right now! 🙂

  2. When I was younger, I always ordered chicken fingers with honey mustard at restaurants, no ketchup for me! Anyways, this chicken bake is something that I would love to make for dinner, especially since it requires little effort and probably tastes delish!

    1. Me too, Bethany! I’ve always loved honey mustard, and normally picked that sauce over ketchup for my chicken fingers, fries, salads, etc. It’s so darn good!

  3. Blair I love this recipe! So quick and easy!! I will definitely have to try it ? And I agree that taking time to workout everyday is important to keeping our zen this holiday season. I do group classes at the gym too and it’s so nice to have fun while getting your butt kicked!

  4. If I am using chicken tenders should I half the sauce? I love your recipes but never buy chicken breasts.

    Happy Holidays!

    1. Hi Debra! The tenders should work great! I would use the same amount of sauce, but just watch the cooking time. The tenders might cook a bit faster than my original recipe states, although I was using small breasts so they cooked pretty quickly. It shouldn’t be too different at all! Enjoy!?

  5. This looks delicious! What an interesting idea adding curry powder to the mix too! That would give it so much flavour and richness!

  6. Anyone try this in a crockpot? With a busy family I try to use my crockpot so the main dish is hot and ready then supplement with easy sides.

    1. Hi, Terri! I haven’t tried it in the slow cooker, but I think it would work really well! Let me know if you give it a try!

  7. This was SOOO delicious and easy! The sauce was wonderful. I served it with white rice and broccoli. My 14-month-old gobbled it up. Thanks for a great dinner!

    1. Hi, Meredith! Yay! I’m so glad that the meal was a hit with the entire family. Thank you for letting me know! 🙂

  8. 5 stars
Made this for dinner last night and it was excellent! We prefer thighs so I used four bone-in, skin on thighs and cooked the dish in an iron skillet. The sauce did not get greasy at all (was debating about removing the skin) and had such great flavor. The skin browned very nicely so made for a very appetizing appearance (and smell!). This went together so easily and quickly and the ingredients are all pantry staples. Thanks, Blair, for another winner!

    1. Excellent! Love an easy chicken dinner. 🙂 I’m glad that you enjoyed it with the thighs. We’ll have to try that next time!

  9. I’d love to make this! At the beginning of the article, where the bulletpoint ingredients are first listed, I see garlic but no mustard mentioned, but near the end where the complete recipe is shared, I see no garlic mentioned. Garlic seems like it would be tasty in this. Did you intend to include it? Thanks!

    1. Hi, Eliza! We love this meal. I hope you’ll give it a try!

The Dijon mustard is listed as the second bullet point at the top of the article (just below the chicken), and the garlic is listed in the 5th bullet point. In the complete recipe at the bottom, both the garlic and mustard are also included. I’m not sure if maybe you just missed them in each place? Anyway, just to be sure, I copied and pasted the ingredient list here so that you can see the specific measurements:

      4 bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts or thighs
      2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
      2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary (or ¼ teaspoon dried rosemary)
      ½ teaspoon minced fresh garlic
      ½ teaspoon salt
      ⅛ teaspoon pepper
Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley and rosemary
