Hi, friends! I hope that your week is chugging along nicely! I’m just popping in with a fun little trip down memory lane…
There are certain people, places, and things that instantly bring back memories and transport us to previous times, right? For me, one of those places is a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Whenever I drive past a Cracker Barrel sign on a highway or see a commercial on television, I am reminded of my teenage years and the many hours that our family spent on the road traveling to my soccer practices, games, and tournaments.
One of my teammates in particular, Casey, always requested team meals at Cracker Barrel. Since there are Cracker Barrel restaurants all over Virginia and the southeast, we found ourselves there a lot. In fact, twenty years later (yikes!), my dad still mentions “Casey’s favorite restaurant” whenever we drive by one.
Fast-forward to today, when my kids’ babysitter (Hannah) was telling me about her family’s recent road trip from Virginia to Florida. She said that during their long drive down the eastern seaboard her Dad used one of his favorite rules of thumb when deciding where to stop for the night. He always looks for a Cracker Barrel restaurant because he knows that he will find good, family-friendly food and a nice hotel side-by-side! Good to remember, right?
But after checking out Cracker Barrel’s website, I’ve noticed that some things have changed since my soccer team dinners 20 years ago. Don’t worry – it’s still authentic Southern hospitality and fresh made food. Plus, the Old Country Store where you can pick up products like candy, clothes, toys, and furniture is still there!
But there’s also an entire section of the menu dedicated to Wholesome Fixin’s with full flavor and fewer calories. For instance, the Fresh Fruit n’ Yogurt Parfait Breakfast comes with low-fat vanilla yogurt layered with fresh fruit and topped with granola. The parfait is served with a two-egg helping of scrambled Egg Beaters® plus three slices of turkey bacon…all for just 470 calories.
And in addition to the classics like Homemade Chicken n’ Dumplins or Baked Apple Dumplin’, you can also find lighter comfort food options for lunch and dinner. The Buttermilk Oven Fried Chicken Breast or the Pecan-Crusted Catfish are calling my name!
Is your mouth watering yet? Do you have any road trips planned for the coming month? I’m going to scamper off to continue shopping at Cracker Barrel’s Retail Store for a real trip down memory lane!
