Since plain water can get pretty boring, I’ve been adding fruit and herbs to my pitchers for years. It’s a quick, easy, and cheap way to make a cold beverage taste like an exotic treat…while keeping it healthy!

I currently have two different mint plants in my herb garden that are doing really well, so I’ve been adding the leaves to a lot of different dishes. I’ve been enjoying Mint Chocolate Chip smoothies for breakfast, and strawberry-feta-mint salads with lunch and dinner, for example. And since we always have a giant bag of limes on hand (mostly for Keith’s Gin and Tonic cocktails!), this was an obvious combination.

After taking one sip of the water, I realized that it tastes a lot like one of my favorite drinks — a Mojito — thanks to the mint leaves and the fresh lime. Minus the alcohol and the sugar, this is a “mocktail” that you can drink at any time of day! To jazz it up even more, I like to use seltzer water sometimes, too!

Mojito Infused Detox Water

Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups filtered water
  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
  • 2 limes sliced
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Fill a pitcher with 6 cups of water.
  • In a small bowl, use your fingers to toss together mint and limes, working the mint leaves to gently release some of their oils and flavor.
  • Stir limes and mint into the water. Refrigerate for 10 minutes, or up to 2 days for the flavors to infuse into the water. The longer you let it chill, the stronger the water will taste.
  • Serve with ice, if desired.

    1. Hey, Colleen! I don’t use a special type of mint (at least not that I’m aware of). 🙂 I have it planted in my herb garden in the summer and I just pull it off of the plant when I need it.

      If you leave the mint in the water for a long time, it will definitely release a stronger flavor (and maybe a grassy flavor that you don’t care for). An alternative would be to leave the mint out of the pitcher until you’re ready to serve the water. When you want to drink the water, add the mint leaves and rub them or press them to release their flavor and oils right before drinking (kind of like when a bartender muddles the mint in your glass for an alcoholic mojito cocktail). Hope that helps!
