The Secret To Making A Frosted Sugar Cookie Protein Shake

In addition to the powerhouse blenders that I use, my other two secrets for a cookie-like shake are raw oats and butter flavoring! That’s right — raw oats are pureed right into the drink, giving it a thicker, chewier, and more dough-like consistency. Plus, the addition of whole grains gives the smoothie more staying power to keep your energy levels high and your cravings at bay!

The Butter Flavor, which can be found near the vanilla extract on the baking aisle of your grocery store, gives the smoothie that rich, buttery taste that you would expect in a traditional cookie. Trust me, friends — this is SUCH a tasty way to start (or end) your day — guilt free!

  1. Oh you had me at sugar cookie! This protein shake sounds SO good, Blair! I love how this is decadent, but healthy. Just perfect!

  2. Uhhh holy goodness!! I would gladly eat this for breakfast if it means Im getting in a good amount of protein and it tastes like cookies! Using butter extract is a fantastic idea! Never thought of it!

  3. WOW this photo looks like it should be on a Christmas card!!! Amazing. This smoothie is right up my ally. I typically eat eggs and kale for breakfast but there is something about the holidays that just makes me CRAVE something sweet right away in the am!!

  4. This sounds wonderful! If I was going to used unflavored protein powder, what would I need to add? More vanilla, sweetener of choice? I know I could just play with it, but I thought I’d get your input, since you have experience and I do not, lol.

    1. Hi, Teresa! That’s a good question! I haven’t ever bought unflavored protein powder, so I’m certainly no expert! BUT, I would definitely add a bit more vanilla extract (start with about 1/4 teaspoon more), as well as sweetener of some sort. My protein powder is actually really sweet, so you’ll want to use a decent amount of honey, sugar, stevia, whatever you prefer. I would just add it slowly (maybe 1 teaspoon at a time), blend a little bit, and see how it tastes. You can always add more at the end if it’s not sweet enough! 🙂

    2. I just made this today. You basically need to use the whipped topping, otherwise there’s absolutely no sweetener taste in it at all. I’m new to protein powder,so I wasn’t aware. I’ll need to make it again sometime, with the topping.

    1. Hey, Latasha! I just added a nutrition panel so that you can see the full details. Hope that helps! It’s about 211 calories for the entire recipe. I calculated that using the protein powder that I typically use, which is Quest Nutrition’s Vanilla Milkshake flavor — it has 100 calories per serving. Enjoy!

  5. Good morning
Amazing recipe but I’m wondering if it has protein powder how is it only 4g of protein for the total?

    1. Hey, Raquel! Thanks for catching that mistake! The nutrition panel is automatically generated by the recipe card, so it’s not always 100% accurate. Clearly this is wrong! I’ll manually update it right now. 🙂
