Hey, friends! I hope that you’re having a great weekend! I wanted to pop in this morning to share some fun pics from a recent family hike, as well as to let you know about some delicious snacks for the trail. Let the summer adventures continue!
If you read my regular Weekend Recaps, then you know that after Keith returned from his week-long business trip last weekend, we all headed out to our favorite nearby hiking trail in Shenandoah National Park — the Graves Mill Trail along the Rapidan River. This is one of our favorite walks because it’s flat (hard to find in the mountains!), and it’s close to our house — making it perfect for those afternoons when we just want to get the kids outside for some fresh air and exercise without committing to an all-day trek.
We never hit the hiking paths without some snacks for fuel, but last weekend we left our regular (i.e., boring) fare at home and instead brought along some fun new treats. Have you seen these perfectly-portioned grab-and-go mixes from Sahale Snacks? Look at all of the different flavors!
I wasn’t sure where to start, but I figured that I couldn’t go wrong with the Berry Macaroon flavor…
For just 210 calories, I got a filling snack thanks to plenty of healthy fats, 3 grams of fiber, and 5 grams of protein. Plus, the variety of textures (soft, chewy, and crunchy!) and the variety of flavors (from toasted coconut, crunchy almonds, cashews, blueberries, apples and a touch of lemon) made this choice 100% satisfying.
Love that the handy little packets are small enough to stick in my pocket for our shorter walks that don’t require a backpack. So convenient!
We walked along the path for awhile,
with short stops to cross the river,
look for fish,
and even pick some wild raspberries.
Since the raspberries weren’t plentiful enough to constitute a snack, we also took a break to EAT (of course)!
I was nice enough to share my Berry Macaroon mix with two-year-old Grabby-Hands Spencer (who also loved it),
while Keith went with the Classic Fruit + Nut Trail Mix (made with whole almonds, cashews and pistachios, cranberries and apples).
